blog 2: art for the sake of art

because I’m trying to make a career out of creating art, I admit it’s sometimes very easy to forget why I’m doing what I’m doing. In 2021 musicians have to fill all these roles for themselves that aren’t as romantic, and when you are spending more time promoting yourself than creating, it certainly changes your perspective (although I am super lucky to have a team that helps me!). It’s weird because if the genuine intrinsic passion to create isn’t there, your art suffers; but if you spend all your time creating you have no platform to share your art. And I do think art is meant to be shared; even the most personal. My point is that if you are trying to make a career out of your art, you have to find a balance somewhere between pure soul-filling creating and thinking about how to package and give away your art. Of course, at the end of the day I think everyone should be creating whether they are a “career artist” or not. We all have it in us and I think a lot of the time the only difference with career artists is that they were brave or crazy enough to pursue their passion :)

anyways, I guess I am here reminding you to pursue your own passion whatever that means, and to find balance within that. Don’t worry too much over the numbers and logistics, those things work themselves out over time for people who are dedicated to their craft. You can accomplish what you are setting out to do; I believe in you and I hope you believe in yourself too. have a great week everyone ❤️
